La Martiniere Calcutta
“Labore et Constantia” -By Labour and Constancy. These immortal words rest with quiet dignity beneath the crest of La Martiniere. They are not merely a motto, but a philosophy bequeathed by our illustrious founder, Major General Claude Martin, a man whose life embodied elegance, discipline, and a noble devotion to the pursuit of excellence. His vision did not fade with time; it only grew in splendour.
“All his martial deeds may die,
Lasting still his charity,
This his laurel blooms for aye
Dead he lives in us to-day.”

~ Excerpt from the School Song by Rev. Frederick James Rowe
When Claude Martin passed away on September 13, 1800, the Supreme Court issued a monumental order. This set in motion the birth of his cherished institution. What began as an instruction in his will to establish a school in 1836 has, over nearly two centuries, transformed into one of India's most prestigious and time-honoured educational legacies.
The grandeur of La Martiniere extends beyond its historic buildings. It remains in the air of its premises. Even 188 years later, the corridors still echo with the dignified sounds of education, leadership, and tradition. The institution stands as a symbol of sophistication, knowledge, and intellectual prestige. Its reputation has only grown over time.
The twin gems of this heritage, La Martiniere for Boys and La Martiniere for Girls, stand as independent but united pillars of Martinique excellence. Together, they maintained Claude Martin's dream with unmatched dedication. Guided by an exceptional and experienced faculty, the school's aim is the holistic development of each child entrusted to its care.
While academics remain the crown jewel of Martinian's journey, the empire of co-curricular excellence also flourishes proudly. From playgrounds filled with adventure to cultural arenas sparkling with talent, students are shaped into leaders who conduct themselves with decency, respect, and unwavering integrity.
Each day, each Martinian strives to maintain not only a tradition, but a legacy, ensuring that the school flag remains high, and the name of our Founder remains, as ever, "ever spotless and ever pure."
